Students in junior kindergarten to grade 4 learn and build on basic musicianship skills through music games, rhythm exploration and movement, vocal performance, and the basics of writing and reading music notation. These skills build the foundation for instrumental music classes starting in Grade 5. Students will also study the historical and social context of western and world music through connection to their classroom subjects. Co-Curricular classes include: Jazz band, primary strings, intermediate strings, ukulele club, and grade 2/3 choir. A schedule of these co-curricular classes can be located on the school website. Information about our grade 5-7 choral program can be found here. All music ensembles whether they occur on timetable or co-curricular have at least one opportunity per year to perform for their peers and families.
